Spring Hat Contest, Glendora Womens' Club, 1957
16 X 20" Oil on Canvas
My mother belonged to the Glendora Women's Club back in the 50's and they had many activities and fund raisers.
In the spring one year, the club had a hat contest and the ladies were instructed to decorate their hats.
My mom went into our back yard and cut all colors of irises that were growing there and pinned them to her straw hat.
I remember how original it was, how beautiful the irises were, and how they smelled. Even today, when I smell an iris I remember that event and my mother.
